EU BOOSTS UGANDA’S COFFEE VALUE CHAIN

The European Union (EU) is a worthy development partner that has enabled Uganda to achieve many milestones in implementing development projects. As we celebrate Europe Day, what comes to mind is the most recent partnership in supporting Uganda to ensure its coffee value chain meets EU standards, particularly regarding deforestation and traceability of its coffee. This is quite crucial, since coffee has become the country’s highest foreign exchange earner. Last year, for instance, Uganda earned $1.1b from coffee exports. This was a record-breaking amount and the highest in 30 years.
